Annual maintenance shutdown at O3

Pressrelease Thursday, August 24, 2017

After an operating season with very high production availability, it is time for the annual maintenance shutdown at Oskarshamn 3 (O3). From the turn of the year 2016-2017 until July, O3 has delivered at maximum capacity for 99.3% of the time. Now, 46 busy days of maintenance await which are focused on safety and quality in order to ensure stable power supplies in the coming 2017-2018 operating period.

On Friday, August 18, O3 left the external grid in order to begin the annual maintenance shutdown that will last for 46 days. The plant is scheduled to be operational again on October 3.

During the annual maintenance shutdown, a large number of tasks involving extensive work and tests will be carried out in addition to the normal annual fuel change. Among other things, a completely new generator switch will be installed and tests will also be carried out on the reactor tank, the moderator tank cap and the moderator tank cap stand. Extensive work also will involve the replacement of two high-pressure pumps in the cooling system for the shutdown reactor, the replacement of twenty actuators, the replacement of the neutron flow measurement electronics, and a triennial servicing of the low-pressure turbine.

With many tasks to carry out and approximately 900 contractors on site, it is important to make safety a priority. Other parties will also work inside the plant with the sole task of detecting and preventing workplace risks and promoting professional conduct.

– As usual, we have dedicated safety coaches who support those tasks which require a particular focus on the working environment, says revision manager Robert Linnsand.
